Show secretary presentation 2025
Welcome to our 47th Show and thank you all for being part of this wonderful annual event.
We have had a good weekend with weather but a difficult growing season with quite extreme wet and dry conditions. I am delighted to say though that the turn-out of 693 entries by 73 entrants has surprised some of us and has enabled us to yet again, provide a great Show.
The number of Entries versus the number of Entrants fluctuates every year.
The numbers of Entrants starts from our lowest of 62 (1997) to our highest of 94 (2006).
The same applies to Entries with our lowest Entries being 400 (1998) to our highest of 704 (2011). Our records go back to 1989.
So, this year we have not broken any records with Entrants or Entries but, the numbers are very good and that’s all we can wish for. We have had many new entrants and that is always pleasing as it places an alternative focus on the interpretation of the subjects in the Show Schedule.
We did break 2 records in the Mammoth classes of the Pumpkin from Rob Birnie weighing in at 118kg and the Kohl Rabi from Andrew Tokely weighing in at 6.35kg. This is always an exiting achievement. Most of us can only marvel at how these records are achieved.
We had a bit of a last-minute idea of providing a new competition to guess the weight of the winning Mammoth Pumpkin this year. It’s all good fun and adds to our enjoyment.
As always I would like to give my thanks to you all, entrants, sponsors, as well as a fantastic Committee and volunteers who work hard to get the show what it is today. We are a great team whose main aim is to provide the best we can for you all to enjoy.
Before I hand you over to our President Charles Heath to start the presentation of the Prizes and Angie for the Grand Draw and other competitions, may I ask that you all clear away your exhibits after the presentations and competitions.
